POLISHING SHAKESPEARE

by Brian Dykstra

Directed by Margarett Perry

with Brian Dykstra, Kate Levy & KATE SIAHAAN-RIGG

A dot-com billionaire pays an esteemed American theatre company to translate Shakespeare into English (Wait. What?). A sly comedy inspired by an unbelievably true story. To sell out or not to sell out—is that the question?

A runaway hit at the Edinburgh Fringe and Kitchen Theatre Company in Ithaca, Polishing Shakespeare arrives Off Broadway.

At last! A real, grown-up American play! It poses its ethical dilemmas with a fierce intelligence, creating a slippery drama that is full of meat. Something to really chew on.”

Education, Brian Dykstra’s new play, is an incendiary investigation into censorship, free speech and responsibility in electric theater. You will find yourself more stimulated by this play of ideas than by any drama in recent memory.”

HIDING BEHIND COMETS

Cincinatti Playhouse in the Park world premiere

Time Passes.

The Resident Acting Company commissioned Dykstra to write something inspired by the company's experience doing theatre during Covid. Something that would also look at the nature of theatre and how this related to the "pandemic theatre" that has been happening online. When asked about the creation of this piece Dykstra said, "Getting to create something akin to 'Theatre' during a pandemic when we can't actually do the things we do, that are some of the best things we do, means we have to resort to making a 'Film.' Which was a dichotomy that was too delicious to ignore." Time Passes (something digital) is available to watch for free on The RAC website.
