A SANE POLICY
page 58 SCENE SEVEN GRACE (Raising her glass) Here's to my favorite client. (Nolan smiles weakly, sips) I just wanted to let you know what a pleasure it was to represent you. I'm glad I got to try this case. I think what you do is important. You have no idea who I usually represent. NOLAN ...Who do you usually represent? GRACE Oh...I represent people who are guilty. Most of the time. And even if they're not guilty, I think they are. Or they're guilty of something just as bad as what they're charged with, or worse. NOLAN ...Why do you represent them? GRACE Because they can afford me. NOLAN That doesn't sound very...easy...to do. GRACE No. I guess it doesn't. NOLAN Why do you represent them? GRACE ...They need me to. NOLAN Like I did. GRACE I don't really want to go down this road. The point is, I'm proud of this case. That's what I'm trying to say, I'm proud of-- NOLAN I killed them on purpose. GRACE ...I don't want-- NOLAN I've thought about it. I must have killed them on purpose. GRACE Stop saying that. |
